United Neighborhood Houses Presents Civic Engagement Forum
On Tuesday, July 31st, over 50 staff members and community activists from settlement houses across the city attended a Civic Engagement Forum, the first to be hosted by United Neighborhood Houses, the membership organization of 39 settlement houses and community centers in New York City and member of New York Counts 2020.
The forum included three panel discussions that covered major topics and concerns for the settlement house community today, including civic engagement projects in settlement houses, participatory budgeting, and the 2020 Census.
During the census panel, settlement houses leaders from the UNH network spoke with Jorge Fanjul, Senior Advisor for DemocracyNYC Programs and the Deputy Director of Census Outreach and Organizing at the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Policy Initiatives.
Together, they addressed the importance recognizing what’s at stake for New Yorkers and of achieving a complete count in the 2020 Census. For more information, please contact Lena Cohen, Civic Engagement Associate at UNH at firstname.lastname@example.org.
