New York Counts 2020 Joins AG Schneiderman's Press Conference to Announce Litigation Challenging Census Citizenship Question

On April 3, 2018, several member organizations of New York Counts 2020 joined a press conference held by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to announce his office's lawsuit, representing 18 states, plus D.C., and 6 major cities, including the bi-partisan U.S. Conference of Mayors, to challenge the Census Bureau's ill-advised decision to add a citizenship question to the 2020 Census after all the questions had already been vetted for years.

Such a decision is in direct violation of the Constitution's mandate to count all persons and is in fragrant violation of the Census Bureau's own procedures.  The Census benefits everyone if all persons complete it because it means federal monies to their localities for basic needs like infrastructure, schools, housing and health care and more representation for the state in Congress.
